Polis said he’d hold the president “to a specific timeline for withdrawal” before supporting “one penny of reauthorization money” for the Iraq war.

That unanimity during the forum, however, did not deter the Polis and Fitz-Gerald camps from sniping at their opponents about past positions on the Iraq war at other times on Wednesday.

Polis issued news release Wednesday blasting Fitz-Gerald, a state senator from Jefferson County, for voting for two legislative resolutions in 2003: one titled “Honoring President Bush’s Leadership In His Effort To Protect the United States Against Saddam Hussein”; and the other “Concerning Support of the United States Armed Forces in Operation Iraqi Freedom.”

Said Polis: “Joan Fitz-Gerald needs to apologize to all of us in the 2nd Congressional District who opposed the Iraq war from the start” because she “voted to support Bush and this terrible war.
