Top ten reasons I support Jared Polis to replace Rep. Mark Udall for Colorado’s 2nd Congressional district.
1. The War in Iraq. From the beginning, Jared Polis has opposed the war in Iraq and has vowed that, when in Congress, he will withhold any votes for additional funding for the war until Congress and the Administration has a firm plan to withdraw our troops and bring them home safely. Jared traveled to Iraq recently, as he reported here and here and here and here and here and here and here and here.
2. Ethics in government. Like us, Jared Polis is tired of politician’s double-speak and the strong influence that special interests have in our government. He is a man with a strong sense of ethics and, when in Congress, Jared will continue this pledge by working to pass legislation that will limit the influence special interests have on our federal laws and regulations through public financing of campaigns and tougher ethics laws. In Congress, Jared will continue this fight to implement strong ethics laws at the federal level.
3. Strong on education. Jared’s background as Chairman of the State Board of Education and Superintendent of New America School, a school to teach new immigrants English which he founded and ran, give him real world experience which is exactly what Congress needs.
4. Single payer health care. Jared Polis is also a strong advocate for a single-payer universal health plan that would cut consumer costs by eliminating paperwork and create a portable health insurance plan for all Americans. This model has received a broad array of support and, as our next congressman, Jared will fight to combat the very serious issue of expensive and inaccessible health care in our country. 5. Small business. Although Jared is now wealthy, he accumulated his wealth as a small business owner. As a business owner, he has a great respect for other business owners and will support business opportunities as a Congressman. Job creation also requires that we maintain our leadership and economic competitiveness in a rapidly changing global market through innovation, entrepreneurship and technological breakthroughs.
6. Environment, climate change, alternative energy. We must increase investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy research and technology, including the expansion of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden. But we also have to help move the groundbreaking technology into the market through incentives, university-industry collaboration and other public-private partnerships. I believe that the development of alternative fuels, such as biofuels, as well as energy-efficient products, such as hybrid vehicles and Zero-Energy Homes, holds the key to both becoming energy independent and addressing global warming. In addition, renewable energy can foster entrepreneurship, capitalize on American ingenuity and create jobs
7. Immigration. The current immigration system must be replaced by comprehensive immigration reform that secures our borders and enforces the rule of law, respects the dignity and dreams of immigrants, reflects our values, and recognizes the needs of our communities and businesses. We must effectively address both the security and economic interests of our nation.
8. A loyal supporter of Colorado Democrats. When a candidate or issue group in Colorado decides to run for office, or the party makes plans to implement a program, one of the first people they call is Jared Polis. They call him because they can always count on him to help with funding and lend his name. We can always count on Jared to support the Democratic Party.
