Polis: "Ask Petraeus and Crocker Tough Questions, Block Funding and Continue Troop Withdrawal"

APRIL 8TH, 2008 | Polis for Congress

BOULDER, CO - Jared Polis today called on the Senate Armed Services Committee to ask General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker the tough questions surrounding whether or not the war in Iraq is making progress, if Americans are safer because of the war, and why America is footing the bill for Iraq’s domestic needs when the Maliki government has nearly $30 billion in reserves?
"This war is not getting better and Americans, as we saw over the last few weeks with the violence in Sadr City, are in great danger. "General Petraeus and Amabassador Crocker have made it very clear that this quagmire of a war is not going to end anytime soon under the current leadership,” said Polis. “Americans, who are fighting a recession at home, should not be pouring billions into a nonsensical war that is only serving to pad the pockets of contractors and mercenaries like Halliburton and Blackwater. "We need a firm exit strategy and Congress must continue troop withdrawal and block further funding for this war until an exit strategy is in place."
Polis, who is an original sponsor of the highly supported “Responsible Plan” to end the war in Iraq, has opposed the war from the beginning. The Plan, which he jointly announced in Washington, DC, last month, has since gained momentum and now boasts over fifty congressional candidates, as well as current members of Congress, national security experts, and high ranking military officials as supporters of the Plan. Last week, Polis encouraged voters to endorse the Responsible Plan by logging onto his campaign website, and signing the online petition.
